Congratulations to all of the Design Team on a challenging project.

One Design were commissioned to design a contemporary house within a very traditional North Yorkshire village. Planning was granted after a challenging process which resulted in the design being referred to as "an eye catching emblem for Embsay"

The proposed site is within a triangular corner plot with fantastic views across the Yorkshire Dales.

The constraints of the plot dictated the shape of the house which is split over 4 levels making the most of all the available space and capturing the views.

The use of natural stone and complementary natural wood along with eco-friendly features such as south facing glazing for solar gains, a self maintained sedum roof to reduce the carbon footprint and the option to incorporate ground source heat pumps, heat recovery systems and a grey water collection tank were all critical elements in propelling the house towards being regenerative.

We have a very happy client who shared the following with us.
"We commissioned One Design because we loved their positive and enthusiastic approach to working with, what some would consider, a difficult brief: a contemporary family sized sustainable house, with a small footprint, using natural materials to enhance the streetscape. One Design gave us clear and understandable time frames and pricings for each part of the design process. We were given expert advice and guidance throughout the stages of design and were able to have input in the process. The Design and Access Statement, in support of our planning application was extremely well written and comprehensively covered all the issues which needed addressing to get our proposal to the next stage. One Design regularly kept us informed of the progress of the application. Stephen and Kyle were extremely professional in dealing with the planning department to solve any issues which arose with the application. This was a very controversial proposal in a traditional North Yorkshire village. It predictably received many objections (and some supporters). The local Parish Council, despite being fervent objectors , continually praised the design for its ““individual, innovative style” . I am delighted to report that the application has been approved by the full Planning Committee. This house will give us a modern, spacious and healthy living environment with open plan spaces in common areas, a lot of light and an elevated outdoor area. It’s been a privilege and pleasure to work with Stephen, Kyle and the team and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend their outstanding services and professionalism to anyone with a similar dream".
