One Design were commissioned to design a contemporary house within a very traditional North Yorkshire village. Planning was granted after a challenging process which resulted in the design being referred to as "an eye catching emblem for Embsay"
The proposed site is within a triangular corner plot with fantastic views across the Yorkshire Dales.
The constraints of the plot dictated the shape of the house which is split over 4 levels making the most of all the available space and capturing the views.
The use of natural stone and complementary natural wood along with eco-friendly features such as south facing glazing for solar gains, a self maintained sedum roof to reduce the carbon footprint and the option to incorporate ground source heat pumps, heat recovery systems and a grey water collection tank were all critical elements in propelling the house towards being regenerative.
