One Design Architects are currently preparing a Planning application to redevelop a former land-locked recreational site into a new housing estate of two, three and four bedroomed low-rise dwellings. The proposed scheme responds to the natural sloping topography of the site and features a central community green space at the heart of the development, an attenuation pond and sweeping belt of additional perimeter landscaping.

Designing a suitable layout and character for the proposed streets, buildings and open spaces, which relate to both the surrounding site context and existing landscape features, whilst providing sufficient units to make the scheme financially viable has been an interesting design challenge. The style chosen is distinctly contemporary but familiar in form and mixes a range of natural building materials with new low carbon technologies, such as air source heat pumps and PV panels, to make this a future flagship development.
