Despite the Covid crisis causing major delays to many construction projects, One Design Architectural Services Ltd. are pleased to announce that site works are progressing rapidly on their new-build scheme for a house extension in the heart of Ilkley’s Conservation Area.
Having received two previous planning refusals for proposals made by other local firms, the owner realised he needed to appoint an architect with a totally fresh and innovative design approach.
The extension which controversially stands proud of the main house still won the Conservation Officer’s support for its sensitivity and the visual contribution it made to the location. This position was chosen to deliberately subdivide the existing garden so create a formal frontage to the road and a walled kitchen garden to the rear. The design combines curved garden walling with a contemporary flat roof of living sedum to conceal a garden studio and spacious double garage where the owner plans to restore the family’s classic sports car.
Although completion is not due until September 2020, the new building is already winning the support of neigbours for the seamless way it blends into the existing streetscape without any perceived loss to the garden.
We would like to give special thanks to Rupert, a student at Woodhouse Grove School for his contribution to the project in preparing a key presentation image during his ‘work placement’ at the office.
